Aiken County Schools

The 41 schools in Aiken County are operated by the Consolidated School District of Aiken County. The school district serves 24,699 students in grades K-12 as well as 1,123 students in various adult education programs. Aiken County is South Carolina's sixth largest school district in population.

Aiken County has seven high schools, 10 middle schools, 20 elementary schools, three charter schools and a career center. North Augusta High School is the largest school with 1,627 students. New Ellenton Middle School is the smallest with 181 students. The district employs 1,858 teachers, 58 percent of whom have degrees at the Master's level or higher. The average teacher pay is $48,730.

The district student population is 58 percent white, 33.8 percent black, 5.2 percent Hispanic and 3.0 percent Asian American/other. The district covers 1,178 square miles and school buses daily cover an area as large as the state of Rhode Island.
